NERSC team prepares for the HiAOOS 2024 Arctic expedition
During the second week of April, 2024, Espen and Hanne (NERSC) visited Longyearbyen to prepare equipment for transportation to Sortland in Northern Norway.
A number of boxes full of instruments and accessories were brought out from the containers for transportation to the Pole Position Rubb Hall. In the Rubb Hall the boxes were opened and they went through the equipment to make detailed inventories. This is tedious work but important to facilitate the customs declaration for shipping.
Later in the spring they will go to Sortland to test and refurbish the instruments, It is very important to know that all the equipment and hardware are fit for a 2-year deployment.
Longyearbyen was a beautiful sight as the town and the mountains were covered with snow. The weather was nice but windy and cold between 7-14 ºC. This year it has been a relatively cold winter and the fjord was partly frozen.
