Management structure

HIAOOS is comprised of seven work packages, each with the following objectives.

WP1 Scientific Collaboration:

  • Engage with existing RIs including e-infrastructures and industry to explore and co-develop strategies for update of new underwater observing technologies, methods and tools provided by HiAOOS.
  • Ensure good environmental practices for carrying out field experiments in the Arctic.

WP2 Observing systems and field experiments:

  • Improve the observing capacity in ice-covered Arctic Ocean based on moorings and drifting ice buoys.
  • Advance research-based innovation related to underwater GPS, daily data download from moorings using winch, data recovery from mooring using ROVs and new acoustic array technology.

WP3 Methods and tools:

  • Develop, document, and share methods and tools for visualization and analysis of data from WP2, oceanographic data, passive acoustic data, identification and localization of sound sources, geo-positioning of floats, acoustic thermometry and validation of ocean models.
  • Adapt and develop the Blue Insight platform provided by Kongsberg Maritime as the digital environment for ingestion of data, methods and tools in the project.

WP4 Use cases and training:

  • Enable update of the technologies, methods and tools developed in the project by ROs, research groups, industry and other actors in the Arctic through training and use cases.
  • Develop material for training and use cases and make it openly available through Zenodo and other portals used by the Arctic research community.
  • Facilitate innovation in ocean research though new observations, methods and tools provided by ocean industry.

WP5 Communication and dissemination:

  • Plan and implement dissemination, exploitation and communication (DEC) activities in order to achieve maximum impact of the project.
  • Follow up management of data, methods and tools generated in the project.

WP6 Coordination and management:

  • To prepare the Consortium Agreement and oversee management of knowledge and innovation.
  • To coordinate the scientific-technical and administrative work of the project.
  • To prepare the periodic reports and final reports, including follow up the Gender Action Plan.
  • To ensure that all deliverables are prepared and submitted according to a schedule.
  • Provide input to the Ethics report and updates.

WP7 Ethics requirements:

  • The objective is to ensure compliance with the methods requirements that the project must comply with.
