HiAOOS at ICUA 2026
HiAOOS is delighted to be part of the International Conference on Underwater Acoustics (ICUA), taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 15-18 June 2026. The conference will take place at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, bringing together researchers and industry experts from around the world to discuss developments in underwater acoustics and ocean monitoring.
The HiAOOS team will be out in force with the following contributions:
“Acoustic impacts of shipping in Arctic whale corridors,” by Philippe Blondel, S. Hain, K. Lavis .
“Transpolar songs: comparisons of bowhead whale vocalisation activity between the Nansen Basin and Canada Basin”, by Jonathan Cleverly, Philippe Blondel, Hanne Sagen, Espen Storheim, Matthew Dzieciuch.
“Earthquake signal detection in spectrograms of Arctic hydrophone recordings” by Jonathan Cleverly, Marianna Anichini, Mathilde Sorensen, Philippe Blondel, Hanne Sagen, Espen Storheim, Matthew Dzieciuch.
One of our ECOPs (Early Career Ocean Professional), Jonathan Cleverly, will chair a special session on Polar Acoustics.
HiAOOS aims to strengthen ocean observing capacity in the high Arctic by developing and validating new technologies for data collection in ice-covered regions. Participation in ICUA 2026 provides an opportunity for HiAOOS researchers to share advances in underwater acoustic monitoring, sensor technologies and Arctic observing systems with the wider scientific community.
The conference programme covers a broad range of topics including underwater sound propagation, acoustic sensing, marine monitoring technologies and environmental applications.
By contributing to international discussions on underwater acoustics and ocean observation, HiAOOS continues to support collaborative efforts to improve understanding of the rapidly changing Arctic Ocean and to strengthen European research infrastructure in the region.
