Kongsberg Connecting Arctic Observations and Digital Tools at Oceanology International 2026

How do we turn growing volumes of ocean observations into information that scientists can explore, analyse and use? This challenge is central to HiAOOS—and one that project partner Kongsberg Discovery is addressing through the development of the Blue Insight digital platform.

At Oceanology International 2026, held in London from 10–12 March, Kongsberg Discovery showcased Blue Insight alongside its latest ocean technologies. The demonstration illustrated how measurements collected at sea can move through processing and visualization within a common digital environment.

Blue Insight in HiAOOS

Within HiAOOS, Blue Insight provides an open, modular environment for processing, visualizing and using ocean data. It is an important component of our “Methods and Tools”, where the project develops ways to exploit observations ranging from physical oceanography and sea ice to passive acoustics, acoustic thermometry and underwater geo-positioning.

Kongsberg Discovery leads the integration of HiAOOS’ methods, tools and datasets into Blue Insight. The platform combines time-series and geographical databases with 3D visualization and automated data processing, while its functionality is being adapted specifically to support HiAOOS use cases. The work provides an important bridge between the project’s Arctic observing technologies and the scientists who will use the resulting data.

More broadly, HiAOOS explores how digital environments and technologies such as machine learning can help extract new information from Arctic observations and contribute towards the development of the Digital Twin of the Ocean, such as EDITO.

Kongsberg Discovery’s presentation at Oceanology International offered a glimpse of the wider potential of a technology that has an important role within HiAOOS: connecting ocean observations, analytical tools and visualisation in a shared digital environment.
